How to Submit Your Trophy to Rowland Ward’s Records of Big Game
To submit an entry to the Rowland Ward Foundation for the upcoming edition of Rowland Ward’s Records of Big Game, please follow these steps:
Estimate if the animal meets the minimum.
Access the Minimums List
Go to Rowland Ward’s Measurements page.
Locate the animal you wish to evaluate on the Minimums list, which is available in PDF format.
Find the Correct Section
The Minimums list is divided into three geographical lists:
Africa
Americas
Europe/Asia & S. Pacific
Animals are grouped by categories such as spiral-horned antelopes, bears, and deer.
Find the relevant section for your animal.
Identify Minimum Measurement
Look for the minimum measurement for your animal, listed in both inches and centimeters.
Note: If the “Record” measurement is shown, this indicates the highest scoring animal from the last published edition.
If the animal is an introduced species, check the end of the list for its minimum.
Check the Method for Measurement
In the Method column, find the correct method that applies to your animal.
Print a copy of the specific method form from the site and review its instructions (given in “telegram” style for clarity).
For complex measurements, consult the relevant section in the Measurer’s Handbook on the same web page.
Measure the Animal
Use the instructions provided to measure your animal.
Estimate if your animal meets the minimum requirement based on the measurement.
Drying Period Requirement
Remember, there is a required 60-day drying period for all animals.
This period starts from the date of collection and ends at the date of measurement.
If the animal meets the minimum, proceed to step 2 in the instructions.
Find an Official Rowland Ward Measurer
Visit the Rowland Ward website and use the measurer map to locate the nearest official measurer in your area. Go to the Rowland Ward website measurer map or click here for a printable form.
Schedule a Measurement Appointment
Contact the selected measurer to arrange a meeting where they will measure and document the details of your trophy.
Bring the Trophy to the measurer.
Only an Official RW Measurer is qualified to determine that the animal meets the minimum size requirement to be listed in Records of Big Game. If the animal is a simple one to measure, you may be able to wait while the measuring is done. If the animal is more complex, like a red stag or a white-tailed deer, you will likely have to drop the animal off and pick it up later. In all cases, they must be left to their own devices to measure the animal and you cannot interfere in this process.
Documentation by the Measurer
The measurer will complete the top half of the front of the method form, recording:
Measurements of the animal
Species of the animal
Date measured
Name of the measurer
Measurer’s signature
Complete the Hunter’s Portion and Payment
The hunter must complete the bottom half of the front page as well as the back page of the method form and include a non-refundable $35 processing fee, payable to the Rowland Ward Foundation, before the entry can be processed. Additional items available for purchase include either a digital or paper certificate as well as past editions of Rowland Ward’s Records of Big Game.
